   Feathery fowl is one of our specialties here at Morrison's Feed Bag.  Not only do we stock a full line of organic and conventional poultry feeds, you can also find a variety of galvanized and plastic feeders and waterers for any size or quantity of bird.  We welcome all poultry questions, too, since store owner Les Morrison feeds thousands of birds in the Northeast Kingdom, and his knowledge of poultry nutrition and health is at our disposal.

   After all the feed and time you put into your birds, keeping them safe from weasels, raccoons, foxes and hawks is very important.  We offer a variety of poultry netting (1" and 2" holes, 25', 50' and 100' lengths, and from 2' to 6' heights) and welded wire and hardware cloth (1/2") to contain your poultry and ward off predators. Stop by the store to select the best fencing for your flock.

   The last thing that any chicken farmer wants is for winter to get the best of their birds. We stock items such as heat lamps and bulbs (both red and white) to help keep frost bite away. Having troubles keeping your water thawed? We've got heated poultry waterers and bases too!

Poultry Questions

  • My laying hens have stopped laying eggs. What's the reason for this?

       This time of year it is not uncommon for laying hens to become a bit more inconsistant in their egg laying. There are a few different reasons for that to happen. The first can be that they are molting. In this case the hens start using the protein they are getting to make new feathers so their egg production will fall. Another reason could be that the weather gets too cold. This causes the hens to become stressed and they will lay inconsistantly. This can be solved by adding a red bulbed heat lamp to their coop. It could also be that with the days becoming shorter and shorter that the hens are simply not getting enough light. In this case it would be best to put a heat lamp with a clear bulb and turn it on for 14 hours each day. This will promote maximum egg laying.

  • The water keeps freezing in my hens' water fount. What can I do to keep their water from freezing?

    Here at Morrison's Feed Bag, we have electric heater bases which provide year round water supply for poultry, dogs, cats and other small animals.  It prevents water from freezing at temperatures as low as 10 degrees Fahrenheit in metal founts, bowls and pans.  Each heater base comes equipped with a thermostat control which turns on and off automatically for economical operation.  This Little Giant® product is great for anyone who wants to keep water fresh and unfrozen during even the harshest winters.
